The problem we couldn't ignore

There are nearly 2 billion Muslims in the world. The Quran is recited daily in every corner of the earth — in Fajr prayers, in Taraweeh, in quiet moments before sleep.

Yet an estimated 80% of non-Arab Muslims recite these words without understanding their meaning. We move our lips through Surah Al-Fatiha five times a day, but we don't feel the weight of "Iyyaka na'budu wa iyyaka nasta'een" — "You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help."

That's not just a gap in knowledge. It's a gap in our relationship with the Quran, and with Allah.

Why this matters

Imagine hearing a beautiful letter every day from someone you love — but you can't read the language it's written in. You hold it, you respect it, you even kiss it. But you never truly read it.

That's what the Quran feels like for millions of us. We know it's Allah's message to us — guidance, mercy, comfort — but we can't access it directly. We rely on translations, tafsir, and scholars (and we should). But wouldn't it be powerful if you could also feel the Arabic itself, without needing someone to explain every ayah?

The Prophet ﷺ said: "The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it." (Sahih al-Bukhari 5027)

Learning doesn't stop at recitation. It begins there.

How Bismih works

The Quran has roughly 77,000+ words — but here's the beautiful part: just ~500 unique words make up almost 80% of the entire text. We focus on teaching you those words first.

Each lesson takes just 5 minutes. You hear the word, see it in a verse, quiz yourself on the meaning, and move on. No textbooks, no classrooms, no overwhelm. Just you and the words of Allah, one step at a time.

Where this is going

Bismih isn't just a vocabulary app. It's the beginning of something much bigger. Our vision is a world where every Muslim — regardless of their background, language, or education — can open the Quran and feel a personal connection with its words.

If the Quran was revealed for all of humanity, then the tools to understand it should be accessible to all of humanity too.

A Sadaqah Jariyah

We built Bismih with a simple belief: if even one person understands a verse of the Quran because of this app, and that understanding changes how they pray, how they live, how they connect with Allah — then every hour of work was worth it.

The Prophet ﷺ said: "When a person dies, their deeds come to an end except for three: a continuing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah), knowledge that benefits others, or a righteous child who prays for them." (Sahih Muslim 1631)
